Promotional Material Essay Example for Free
Promotional Material Essay Before we created our promotional materials such as posters, leaflets and flyers, we had to make sure that we were able to find a suitable price in which we can budget according to our finances. During our research, we were able to locate a suitable printing agency in which we could print our promotional materials in bulk, so we could hand out in the local area to help promote the business. The advantage of the agency we chose for printing our material was that they were able to print our promotional materials within 2 working days and that any deliveries that took place could be tracked on the website when u log on to it, this to make sure that the delivery is going according to plan. By selecting the amount we though would be appropriate for this campaign, we were able to locate the price in which it would cost us as an advertising agency if that amount were to be printed out. Promotional Material Leaflets We used leaflets to ensure customers the products that the cafà © will be selling in their local cafà ©. The leaflet we designed had a bright Italian background (in the form of the Italy colours), indicating immediately to the consumer that the cafà © is Italian based, which is probably the most important factor to inform the customer about. We made sure that the leaflet was specifically designed and had the relevant information such as the location of the cafà © and the products that the cafà © were going to sell. This is vital to clear as misleading customers about products that the cafà © doesnt sell could lead to the business losing customers. We also had to include contact information so that customers could maybe phone in the cafà © to order food or to see whether the cafà © is open. We used pictures so that consumers are able to get a feel of some of the products that the cafà © has on offer. We placed this on the front (main) side of the leaflet so that it is eye cat ching to the consumer as soon as they see the leaflet. We made 1500 printout leaflets as they can be easily distributed around the local area and are the most common method of promotion used by a business of a similar stature. Leaflets could be posted through letter boxers to the people around the local area so it increases the chance of the consumer actually noticing and reading the leaflet This can help achieve the business objectives of achieving 30 customers daily as by using this type of promotion, in the form of leaflets, the business is virtually trying to attract more customers to shop at the cafà © and build more customer awareness of the cafà ©. If the business has more customers, they could achieve their aim of breaking even in the first year. However, a drawback of using a leaflet was that it proved to be the most costly in terms of production as we were charged at 11p per leaflet. Posters The posters we designed were again Italian based but had to limit the amount of information we could put on the poster due to lack of space. This was one of the drawbacks of using a poster but could be just as effective as using the leaflet. However, the production of the poster was the cheapest at just 4.5 per poster. This came at a surprise as we thought that the poster was to be more expensive than the rest of the promotional material. The content we had on the poster had o be very basic but had to send the message across to consumers of the products that the cafà © may sell if they came to visit. The drawback of creating a poster was that it was very time consuming as first we had to make a draft copy, then were we able to form the main copy in which was going to be used for distribution. The use of pictures made it more eyes catching for the consumer and the contents that were stated were the basic products that the cafà © were going to sell. The reason behind this decision was that we believed that consumers would be more likely to read a poster that had a limited amount of writing on the poster rather than having a jammed pack poster full of writing and fewer pictures. By just stating the important points and more use of pictures proved to be more eye catching for us and potential consumers. This could help achieve the aims of this organisation as students and working class people could notice this poster when they shop at local newsagents or public areas when they go to work or college. Although these wont be distributed to houses like leaflets, they will be situated at public areas such as on buses or some of the local shops nearby. This would increase customer awareness of the business on a whole or be a drawback as some people like the elderly who do not shop as often as other student are more likely to miss the poster rather than students who walk past on a day to day basis.

An Essay About Orbits Communications Essay
An Essay About Orbits Communications Essay The word orbit we hear it very often, whenever the space shuttle launched or it meets up ISS (International Space Station) or when a rocket launches a payload, we always come across the word ââ¬Ëorbit. But what actually the orbit is? An orbit is a specific path on which an artificial satellite revolves/travels around another body or planet .This path is regular and repeating .Satellite can be natural and artificial, like Moon .Moon itself acts like a satellite which travels around the Earth in a particular path. In the solar system , nine planets including Earth ,revolves around the sun in an orbit .Satellite that travels around the Earth are not in a constant distance from Earth, it varies .Sometimes its closer and sometimes far away. The closest orbit of satellite around the Earth is called ââ¬Å"perigeeâ⬠and farthest orbit called ââ¬Å"apogeeâ⬠. The time required for a satellite to complete full orbit is called a ââ¬Å"periodâ⬠. According to Isaac Newtons first law of motion, a moving object will remain in motion unless something pulls it or push it, and that is gravity. Without Earths gravity, satellite would go off in the space along a straight path .With Earths gravity it keep on pulled satellite back to Earth. To maintain the orbit, the gravitational force and the momentum of moving object have to be balanced. Another factor is Escape velocity. It is the speed of an object (satellite) to break free from the gravity of the planet and enters into a certain orbit. It depends on the mass of the planet and varies from planets to planets and the distance from the centre of the planet to the object (satellite) is also important. The escape velocity of Earth is approx. 11.3 km (7 miles)/hr. Orbital Velocity: Orbital velocity is the required speed needed for an object (satellite) to stay in an orbit. It is about and altitude of 242 km, approx 17,000 miles /hr. [4] SATELLITE ORBITS There are three different types of orbits High Earth orbit (Geostationary orbit), Medium Earth orbit (MEO), and Low Earth orbit (LEO).The orbit selected for satellite is depend on its usage and application. Direct Broadcast Programmes and weather communication satellites use Geostationary Orbit, as they are far away from the Earth and they travel in the Earths direction therefore looks stationary .Satellite navigation systems (NAVSTAR or GPS [global positioning system] ),designed to navigate a particular region or area and satellite phones are in MEO(Medium Earth Orbit). NASAs Earth Observing System and other scientific satellites uses LEO (Lower Earth Orbit). [5] [6] Earth orbits. [7] ORBITAL DISTANCES[8] , [9] Orbits Orbit Initials Miles Km 1-way Delay Orbit altitude (KM above earths surface) Low Earth Orbit (LEO) 100-500 160 1,400 50ms 200 1200 Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) 6,000 12,000 10-15,000 100ms 1200 35790 Geostationary Earth Orbit (GEO) ~22,300 36,000 250 ms 35790 Circular and Elliptical Paths There are two types of orbit paths, in which satellite travels around the Earth, circular and elliptical. In circular orbits, the distance between the earth and satellite remains same all the time. When a satellite orbit around the Earth, it creates a plane, which goes across the geo -centre or centre of gravity of Earth. If the satellite orbit with Earths rotation, it is called ââ¬Å"posigradeâ⬠and if it is in opposite direction, it is ââ¬Å"retrogradeâ⬠. The path of satellite around Earth is also defined. If the satellite travels directly overhead the Earth, it makes a circle which had the centre of gravity of Earth known as ââ¬Å"Ground Trackâ⬠and it consists of single point on Earths Equator. [10] Satellite orbit paths. [11] HEIGHT OF ORBIT The distance between satellite and earth or the height of orbit decides how fast the satellite is going to travels around the Earth. The satellite motion is always controlled by the gravity of the Earth. The more nearer the satellite is, gravity gets stronger and it travels more faster. For instance, NASAs Aqua satellite completes the period in 99 minutes around Earth at approx 750kms up, on the other hand a weather satellite takes 23 hrs, 56 mins, and 4 secs to complete a period at 42,164km away from Earth. If we look at Moons one complete period around Earth, it takes 28days at 384,403 kms from the centre of Earth. By changing the height of satellite, it effects on its orbital speed as well. For changing the speed of the satellites orbit, the satellite operator fire thrusters which helps the satellite to accelerate more. It would boost the orbit, in terms of increasing the altitude but it will slow the orbital velocity. Instead of that, the satellite operator should fire the thrusters in opposite direction of the satellite ,By doing this ,it will push the satellite into the lower orbit , which causes increment in orbital velocity. ECCENTRICITY OF AN ORBIT It directs to the pattern, shape of the orbit path. With a low eccentricity the satellite will move close to the Earth in circle (Lower earth orbit). The Eccentricity of an orbit refers to the diversion of orbit from an ideal circle path. With eccentricity of (e) = 0 the orbit forms a circular path, the value of eccentricity lies between 0 ~1.With high (e) = 0.9 the orbits forms an elliptical orbit, the nearest distance from Earth is called perigee and furthest distance is called apogee. In any elliptical orbit, it focused on two focal points, and one of them is geo-centre of Earth, Picture taken from [link] , (NASA illustration by Robert Simmon Another crucial factor is plane of satellite orbital path. An orbital inclination is the angle between the plane of the orbit with the equator of the earth. If the orbit is directly overhead the equator of Earth, it will have an inclination of 0à ° or 180à ° and generally it is called equatorial orbits .And if the orbit is passing over the north and south poles of the Earth , it will make and inclination of 90à °and known as polar orbits. Angle of Inclination [link1] , [link2]. Another feature is the angle of elevation, above the earths plane with a given location of earth and time. It plays an important role when a contact between satellite and earth station is required. Angle of elevation means, when the satellite appears on the horizontal axis of earth. Signals from Earth station may be interrupted if the angle is too small or if the earth stations antenna is not located on high altitude. Minimum of 5à ° angle of elevation is acceptable for satisfactory results. [link] All together, the satellite height, inclination and eccentricity helps to observe the satellite path and what vision it will have on the Earth. TYPES OF ORBITS HIGH EARTH ORBIT [GEO (Geostationary /Geosynchronous orbit)] When a satellite approaches 42,164 kms away from the centre of the Earth (approx 36,000kms from the surface of Earth) it enters into a special plane of orbit where its period starts matching the earths rotation and it orbits the same velocity as Earths. So, the satellite starts behaving as stationary over the Earths equator surface. This High Earth Orbit is known as Geosynchronous. A satellite moving in circular orbit directly overhead the Earths surface with eccentricity and angle of inclination at 0à °forms a geosynchronous also known as geostationary orbit. As it follows the Earth , so it completes its 1 period in 24 hours. GEO orbit is an ideal orbit for monitoring weather forecast events ,because in GEO orbit , the satellite can provide a constant image of same surface range as it follows the Earth.GEO stationary satellites like, GOES (Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite) sends data after every few minutes about wind , regular inspection of cloud impressions and water vapours. Launched and built by NASA, operated by NOAA (National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration) .GOES satellite also helps to locate the ships and aeroplanes in distress situation. Earth images at different intervals of time. [link] As geostationary satellite is always on fixed single position, they can be useful for satellite phones, direct satellite broadcast, radio etc. Just beyond the bounds of High Earth Orbit, there are Lagrange Points. At these points the earths gravity pull cancels the Suns gravity pull .Any satellite placed on these points will get proportional pull towards the Sun and the Earth and it will start moving with the Earth around the Sun. There are 5 Lagrange points, L1 L2 are located opposite sides of the Earth i.e., night and day sides. L3 is located on the other side of the Sun, adverse side of the earth. Only are stable points , located at 60à ° above and behind the Earth in same orbit. On L1, L2 L3 any slight agitation will drop out the satellite out of Lagrange point. At these critical points, they need constant and regular adjustments to stay balanced within the orbit. But on L4 and L5 even if they get disturbed they return back to their initial point. Lagrange Points MEDIUM EARTH ORBIT Satellites which orbits in medium earth orbit they move more quickly as compared to GEO because they are closer to Earth. There are two types of medium earth orbits, Semi Synchronous orbit and Molniya Orbit. 1) Semi Synchronous orbit: This orbit is a near to circular orbit with a very low eccentricity, with a distance of 26,560 kms away from the centre of Earth approximately 20,200 kms from the Earths surface. At this distance, the satellite takes 12 hours to complete its 1 period/orbit. As satellite orbits, the Earth revolves under it and in 24 hours of time, the satellite come across the same 2 points everyday on the equator. This orbit is persistent and much more predictable. This orbit is used by GPS satellites (Global Positioning System). 2) Molniya Orbit: This is the second orbit in MEO, the Molniya orbit. Made by Russians, it works satisfactory for determining high latitudes. With the high eccentricity of 0.722 and inclination of 63.4à ° it forms a huge ellipse orbital path with the Earth, and it is very close with the Earth on one edge. Due to this, it gets accelerated by the earths gravity. As it orbits more faster when it is near to Earth and it slows down, when it moves far away .Due to the high eccentricity, it spends more time at the top of ellipse orbit. Similar to Semi Synchronous orbit, it takes 12 hours to complete its 1 period/orbit and in 24 hours of time, the satellite come across the same 2 points everyday .Molniya orbit is useful for communication in far hemispheres. This orbit is used by Russian communications satellites and the Sirius radio satellites. LOW EARTH ORBIT With a 160-1,240 miles altitude, it forms a low earth orbit in a circular path above the Earths surface. The satellites moving in this orbit complete one period/orbit in roughly 90 minutes. It means they can faster in LEO at approximately 17,000 mph.[link]. Mostly weather communication satellites and scientific satellites are in Low earth orbit .the satellites in LEO got different angle of inclination .the inclination angle depends on the purpose of what to monitor. For example, TRMM (Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission) satellite tasked to monitor the rainfalls in the tropic regions. So that it has a low inclination of 35à ° and it is closer to the equator. NASAs Earth observing system satellites are in LEO and in polar orbits. As they orbits around the north to south poles, they are highly inclined and they takes 99 minutes to complete 1 period/orbit. In half of the period (e.g. north to south pole), they captured the daytime of Earths surface, and in second half period they capture the opposite night time side of the Earth. In 24 hours, the satellites in polar orbits capture the Earth twice, once in daytime and second in night time. The polar -orbiting satellites have one special spot on the equator which lets them to stay in 1 time. This orbit is a Sun Synchronous orbit which indicates that no matter whenever the satellite comes across the equator, the local solar time will be same on the ground as well. For example, Terra satellite, when it crosses the Brazil on equator the time is always about 10:30 am. After completing its one orbit in 99 minutes, when it next overpasses the Earth equator, it comes across the Ecuador or Colombia at about 10:30. The path of Sun-synchronous obit is very narrow. To maintain the sun -synchronous orbit, it is necessary for a satellite to achieve a height of 100 kms with an orbital inclination of 96à °. Accomplishing Maintain the Orbit: To launch a satellite into a particular orbit, an enormous amount of energy is required, and this energy is depends upon the height of the orbit, location of launch site and orbital inclination. For High Earth Orbits, requires huge energy boost just to reach their destination. Polar orbit satellites take more energy as compared to the satellites which are overhead the Earths equator as they didnt gets boost from earths momentum .The ISS (International Space Station) orbits at orbital inclination of 51.6397à ° and it helps other space shuttles to reach to it . Maintaining the Orbit: perturbation There are many factors which effects the orbital inclination of satellites. As in the solar system there are many other gravity pulls as well, such as from the Sun , Moon , and Jupiter , the biggest planet in the solar system NASAS LEO satellites , requires maintenance every year to maintain the inclination of sun-synchronous orbit. Satellites in LEO are also dragged out from their orbit because of the atmosphere. Satellites in lower earth orbit moves through the thinnest layers of the atmosphere where air friction is quite strong and it is more than enough to pull them out from the orbit or pull them closer to Earth. If the satellite comes closer to Earth, Earths gravity accelerates them to boost up, it will either burn up or fall down to earth. Air always rises and expands if heated. The air in the atmosphere rises and expands due to the Suns extra enormous amount of energy. The thinner sheet of atmosphere rises and thicker layer under it takes it place. Now, the satellite orbits in thicker layer instead of thinner layer. It creates more friction between the medium and the satellite. As there is a lot of space junk, orbital debris in orbital paths.

Marketing Mix And Promotion Mix
Marketing Mix And Promotion Mix Ethics have been an important aspect of business activities across the world for a long time. Ethical considerations are always in inseparable elements of business activities, thus advertising cannot be ignored. So we can say that ethics play quite an important role in advertising. Some of the ethics in advertising are: There should be no offence to the generally accepted norms of decency. Claims and representations should be true and honest. There should not be careless use of advertising products which are harmful either to individuals or society. The principle of fair competition should be respected in case of comparative advertising. The dignity of the human person should be maintained. Manipulative techniques should not be used, that means those techniques that play on a customer emotions etc. Ethical considerations are different from legal considerations. Legal considerations are enforced by law, but in case of ethical considerations they can or cannot be enforced by law. Ethical consideration have more to do with responsibility of a person towards the society, while legal considerations are something that has been written, approved and then enforced by the Government. Different companies have different ethical considerations towards a particular product or services, but legal considerations will always remain same as the opposite will be against the law. If we take the case of cigarette advertisement, the writing which says that cigarette is injurious to health is legal consideration; they cannot sell it without that phrase. The non use of vulgarity or obscenity can be seen as an ethical consideration more than a legal consideration. Communication is quite important in business. Ineffective communication causes a huge amount of damage to the company. There are a lot of barriers to communication, which stops the message being transferred. So to ensure that the messages are not impeded barriers to communication should be taken to consideration. So barriers to marketing communication campaign are: Variation in tone or style: If the marketing communication being informal or friendly or if the letters written in the message is threatening, can be a barrier to marketing communication. Noise: Noise can be a barrier as it can cause disturbance and may lead to confusion. For example when talking to a customer faults in telephone line causing some noises could cause disturbances. Differing perceptions: We know that each person is different, so people can take things differently, so a message should always be loud and clear. For example let us consider the advertisement of green tea, if the message that it is green tea is not mentioned loud and clear people could think it as normal tea. Language: Most misunderstandings can happen due to the difference in spoken interpretation. As we know language is most important for communication. For example the usage of jargon can often distort a message, it is not necessary everyone understands it. Lengthy message: If the messages are long people may tend to not to read or hear it fully and the message may not be conveyed in the right way. For example the TV advertisements are mostly about 30 seconds to 45 seconds, if it is more than that most people tend to get annoyed and would not listen to carefully. Prejudices: Some people tend to hear what they tend to hear but not what is said, so it may create false assumptions. Overload: Too much information in the messages can cause problems and the targeted audience may get confused. For example the TV ads regarding toothpastes in which it says the ingredients of the toothpaste, if the names of all ingredients are said people would get confused. Inconsistency: If the messages received are conflicting or inconsistent people tends to ignore them. For example the ad regarding soap, in the ad the company claims some effects of the soap and if anyone who had used it before never got the result would tend to believe the message is false. Channel barrier: If the channel used to send the message is not proper the message may not be received. For example the advertisement have video scenes can only be communicated via TV or internet but not through newspaper. Physical distractions: For example if the message is communicated through E-mail and there are spelling or grammar mistakes, the person who receives it wonà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã¢â ¢t be able to concentrate on the message. Electronic Medias have always played an important role in communication. The evolutions of technology have made communication far easier. The electronic media includes Television, Radio, Telephone, Computers, Internet, Fax, DVD, CD-ROMs etc. As we know there are advantages and disadvantages for everything. The advantages of electronic media in todayà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã¢â ¢s communication campaign are: Messages can be communicated quickly. For example an E-mail can be sent quickly to people. Messages can be communicated at a time to a large number of people. For example an ad on television is seen by a lot of people at the same time. Distance is no longer a problem. For example a message can be communicated to a person at a far distance through telephone, e-mail etc. Audio, video and text can be used in the same medium. For example take the case of advertisements on television, in an ad there is video, audio and also text. It can be recorded and can be stored for future use. For example a message can be stored DVDà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã¢â ¢s and can be used for future use. Powerful impact on people. For example an advertisement on television can have a lasting and powerful impact on people. The disadvantages of electronic media in todayà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã¢â ¢s communication campaign are: They are less intimate. For example an e-mail message is not as close as communicating directly. The mechanism of feedback is slow. For example the response to a television advertisement cannot be known quickly. The medium is expensive. For example a computer is expensive to buy. To make programmes special trainings are required. For example trained people are required for the making of an advertisement which is aired on television. In rural areas the access is limited. For example in many rural areas in many countries the internet is not available so e-mails cannot be used as a medium of communication. They are not permanent. For example and advertisement cannot be aired permanently, they will be taken off air after a considerable time. 6. Marketing Communication objectives are derived from marketing objectives. The main objectives of marketing and marketing communication objectives are to increase brand awareness, increase sales, encourage action from the targeted audience, improve customer relations, establish themselves in the industry etc.

Simple Sammy :: essays research papers
à à à à à In John Updikeââ¬â¢s short story ââ¬Å"A&Pâ⬠, small town New England life is teeming with a whole lot of nothing. Sammy, the man who tells all, seems very uninterested in his job as a check out boy at the local A&P, yet very interested in the people who shop there. He uses his boredom as a vehicle of his imagination that allows him to pry his customers open and expose their true selves. Updikeââ¬â¢s Sammy shows himself as an observant, critical and very bored young man through his first person narration. à à à à à Updikeââ¬â¢s choice of first person perspective lends Sammy the ever powerful ability to quietly but relentlessly gather observations of the people and things around him. The first characters encountered are ââ¬Å"three girls in nothing but bathing suitsâ⬠(369). This scene would obviously catch the attention of any breathing male. But Sammy first takes in ââ¬Å"the one in the plaid green two-piece. She was a chunky kid . . . [with] a sweet broad soft-looking canâ⬠(369). With these quick and most likely mindless observations, Sammy exposes himself as a person who judges others based on appearances. As he takes note of the three girls, he sees ââ¬Å"the queenâ⬠¦ [with] a kind of prim face. Walking into the A&P with your straps down, I suppose itââ¬â¢s the only kind of face you can haveâ⬠(370). Sammyââ¬â¢s observations of the girls in bathing suits are not the only ones made throughout the story. However, the notice taken of the girls i s the most kind. à à à à à Perhaps through his mindless job of ringing up items, Sammy finds that making quick judgments of his customers through brief interactions is quite entertaining. He sees one female customer as ââ¬Å"one of those cash-register-watchers, a witch about fifty with rouge on her cheekbones and no eyebrowsâ⬠¦sheââ¬â¢d been watching cash registers for fifty years and probably never seen a mistake beforeâ⬠(369). Sammy gathers this unfair judgment coarsely and without much thought. He uses this same technique while watching the girls in bathing suits, for example, he thinks the older woman is a witch while he thinks that the girl with her straps down is the queen of her group. And why? Because itââ¬â¢s easy for him to assume these things based on what he sees. He also sees a man ââ¬Å"in baggy gray pants who stumbles up with four giant cans of pineapple juiceâ⬠and wonders to himself ââ¬Å"what do these bums do with all that pineapple juice?
Escaping Reality in Mark Twains The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn Ess
Running From Reality in Huckleberry Finnà à à à à In Mark Twain's The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, a main target of satire is the romantic view of life. Though the characters and symbols, it is evident that the idyllic views are being disparaged. Some of the people in this book are simply deluded, while others cause major tribulations during their lives. Literary romanticism can be pleasant, but it is not real and can confuse those not sage enough to distinguish the difference between a writer's fantasy and their reality. For a person who sees the delusions that humans allow themselves, this can be aggravating. The annoyance caused is not the problem, however. It is the harm caused. The romantic problems brought to light in The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn show how desperate mankind is to escape from its problems rather than face their reality. à The sinking of the steamboat Walter Scott is symbolic of Twain's dislike for Ivanhoe and its author. In the adventure book, the characters live through a near revolution and even receive a happy ending. Realistically, unless the force was greater, a small group of men would have little chance against an army in a castle. Also, in history, love does not always exist between the heroine and the hero. The events described could happen, but the people are not real. Their actions do not always fit those of someone from their background. A believable character would be like Pap, who stays in character until he is found dead. The reader can tell that when Pap signs the temperance pledge, he will not keep it. He is humorous to those that see how ignorant he is, chasing his own son for being "the Angel of Death". As for the characters in such a book as Ivanhoe, their actions only... ...further their existence any. Substituting a fantasy for the truth of one's situation cannot help ameliorate the impediments of life. à Works Cited Pritchett, V. Harriet Beecher Stowe Essay
Born ââ¬Å"June 14, 1811â⬠, ââ¬Å"Harriet Beecher Stoweâ⬠, was born to ââ¬Å"Roxana and Lyman Beecherâ⬠(Lakewood Public Library n. p. ). This seventh sibling has a famous brother, ââ¬Å"Henry Ward Beecherâ⬠, who is a leader of the ââ¬Å"abolitionist movementâ⬠(Lakewood Public Library n. p. ). She also has a sister, ââ¬Å"Catherine Beecherâ⬠who fought for the women to be educated; she played a large role in the womenââ¬â¢s progress in terms of education (Lakewood Public Library n. p. ). In addition to that, she was married to an equally brilliant individual and popular named, ââ¬Å"Calvin Stoweâ⬠at the age of twenty five (Lakewood Public Library n. p. ). She had seven children with this co-teacher of hers (Lakewood Public Library n. p. ). She attended the ââ¬Å"Hartford Female Academyâ⬠to complete her education (Lakewood Public Library n. p. ). This is the same school that her sister, ââ¬Å"Catherine Beecherâ⬠instituted when ââ¬Å"Harriet Beecher Stoweâ⬠was only twelve years old (Lakewood Public Library n. p. ). In school, she was described as ââ¬Å"absent-minded, moody, and weirdâ⬠, however, she was also known as extremely intelligent and that she was exceedingly good in writing (Harriet Beecher Stowe, 1811 ââ¬â 1896 n. p. ). When ââ¬Å"Harriet Beecher Stoweâ⬠turned twenty one, she went to teach in ââ¬Å"Cincinnatiâ⬠at the ââ¬Å"Western Female Instituteâ⬠, another learning institution that her sister established (Lakewood Public Library n. p. ). Together with her sister, Catherine, she wrote and published ââ¬Å"Geography for Childrenâ⬠(Harriet Beecher Stowe, 1811 ââ¬â 1896 n. p. ). This same year, she has also been awarded with for an article she wrote and published in the ââ¬Å"Western Monthly Magazineâ⬠entitled, ââ¬Å"New England Sketchâ⬠(Harriet Beecher Stowe, 1811 ââ¬â 1896 n. p. ). At the age of thirty nine, she had already accomplished a book, entitled, ââ¬Å"Uncle Tomââ¬â¢s Cabinâ⬠(Lakewood Public Library n. p. ). She turned extremely famous in 1851, just a year after she has written the aforementioned book (Harriet Beecher Stowe, 1811 ââ¬â 1896 n. p. ). In addition to the aforementioned, what made her more famous is the fact that she delivered speeches with regards to oppression/slavery that occurs in the United States, as well as, in the United Kingdom (Harriet Beecher Stowe, 1811 ââ¬â 1896 n. p. ). When some of her critics declared that the contents of ââ¬Å"Uncle Tomââ¬â¢s Cabinâ⬠was not genuine, she rose up to the challenge and wrote another book entitled, ââ¬Å"Dredâ⬠five years after the publication of ââ¬Å"Uncle Tomââ¬â¢s Cabinâ⬠(Harriet Beecher Stowe, 1811 ââ¬â 1896 n. p. ). While she was busy delivering speeches about slavery, she also had her writings published in a journal known as ââ¬Å"The National Eraâ⬠that even the president, ââ¬Å"Abraham Lincolnâ⬠acknowledged her brilliance and fame by saying, ââ¬Å"So you are the little woman who wrote the book that started this great warâ⬠(Harriet Beecher Stowe, 1811 ââ¬â 1896 n. p. ). Back then, she was not only the ââ¬Å"most famousâ⬠writer, she was also known to be the ââ¬Å"highest paidâ⬠one (Harriet Beecher Stowe, 1811 ââ¬â 1896 n. p. ). She died in July 1, 1896 in Hartford, CT (Lakewood Public Library n. p. ). However, she left with so many contributions to the world of literature including the following works: ââ¬Å"1) The Mayflower: or, Sketches of Scenes and Characters Among the Descendants of the Pilgrims; 2) Uncle Tomââ¬â¢s Cabin; 3) The Key to Uncle Tomââ¬â¢s Cabin; 4) Sunny Memoirs of Foreign Lands; 5) Dred: A Tale of the Great Dismal Swamp; 6) the Ministerââ¬â¢s Wooing; 7) The Pearl of Orrââ¬â¢s Island; 8) Agnes of Sorrento; 9) House and Home Papers; 10) Little Foxes; 11) Religious Poems; 12) the Chimney Corner; 12) Men of our Times; 13) Old Town Folks; 14) The True Story of Lord Byronââ¬â¢s Life; 15) Lady Byron Vindicated; 16) Little Pussy Willow; 17) Pink and White Tyranny: A Society Novel; 18) Old Town Fireside Stories; 19) My Wife and I: or, Harry Hendersonââ¬â¢s History; 20) Sam Lawsonââ¬â¢s Oldtown Fireside Stories; 21) Woman in Sacred History; 22) Palmetto Leaves; 23) We and Our Neighbors; 24) Bettyââ¬â¢s Bright Idea; 25) Captain Kiddââ¬â¢s Money and Other Stories; 26) Footsteps of the Master; 27) Bible Heroines; 28) Poqanuc People; 29) A Dogââ¬â¢s Mission; 30) The Poor Life; 31) the Writings; and 32) Regional Sketchesâ⬠(Hedrick 3 ââ¬â 398). Furthermore, she left with a good name (Fritz 5 ââ¬â 144). The author in question played a large role as a ââ¬Å"social reformer, philanthropist, and authorâ⬠; she fought for the ââ¬Å"African Americansâ⬠and everyone else who were victims of oppression and slavery (Fritz 5 ââ¬â 144). Upon meeting slaves who were able to escape, she immediately wrote articles and actually published them; through these many people ââ¬Å"will wake upâ⬠in the years to come (Fritz 5 ââ¬â 144). If she had not started upholding such rights of the slaves and people who were oppressed, it would not have been pushed by others and slavery would still have been in its worse today (Fritz 5 ââ¬â 144). During her time, the ââ¬Å"Fugitive Slave Actâ⬠has been enacted (Fritz 5 ââ¬â 144). This law made it unlawful for other individuals to help out slaves who escaped (Fritz 5 ââ¬â 144). What ââ¬Å"Harriet Beecher Stoweâ⬠did was to send a letter to a colleague and ââ¬Å"abolitionist leaderâ⬠named ââ¬Å"Frederick Douglassâ⬠(Fritz 5 ââ¬â 144). Here, she sought for an advice with regards to her articles on oppression/slavery (Fritz 5 ââ¬â 144). Fortunately during this time she also had the opportunity to make her voice heard and so what she did was to discuss her writings especially with regards to slavery to help other individuals become well informed and to inspire them to help her out with her advocacies/fight (Fritz 5 ââ¬â 144). On a final note, ââ¬Å"Harriet Beecher Stoweâ⬠is a famous author who played a large role in addressing the problem on slavery in the United States and the United Kingdom through her works and delivered speeches (Fritz 5 ââ¬â 144). Araby Interpretive James Joyce
Araby Araby is a short story about a young boy that falls in love that has little or no experiences on the subject he in turn gets to feel for himself some of the follies that come along with it. Firstly we see the awkwardness the boy demonstrates around his crush. This boy who remains nameless throughout the story we see follow around a girl and spy on her, this in my books isnââ¬â¢t a great way to get the ladies, but on the other hand he is just a boy and the story took place over one hundred years ago so Iââ¬â¢m thinking this might have been ok back then so I guess Iââ¬â¢ll give him a break.Next they finally meet late at night in a dark room by chance and the young boy is speechless canââ¬â¢t even remember what he says at first when the girl asks if heââ¬â¢s going to Araby, but he does vow on bringing something back for her. Iââ¬â¢d say thatââ¬â¢s reasonable, something I have done for a girl I liked, I have also been painfully nervous around a crush so I can r elate. Now heââ¬â¢s on a mission putting all the parts in play, he gets permission to attend Araby, then the promise of funding from his uncle to complete the task at hand to win his loves heart.Heââ¬â¢s ready to go got everything in order but something doesnââ¬â¢t go right and his uncle comes home awfully late, but the boy pushes to go no matter what heââ¬â¢s made up his mind and heââ¬â¢s going something all of us can relate to at one point or another. Finally getting off the train alone he arrives at Araby, he makes is way to the market only to find most of the booths closed he approaches one but sees only English tea sets and pottery, shortly after that the lights go out and he stands there in the dark feeling angry and disappointed.I think he was just wasnââ¬â¢t mature enough to deal with the situation he was out of his element at Araby, he should be in church, school or playing, heââ¬â¢s too young to be concerned about this kind of stuff, but at least now h eââ¬â¢s learned a lesson that love its tough and things donââ¬â¢t always go the way you plan, we have all been there and it sucks and even though what happened to this boy is tiny on the grand scale of relationships it can still hurt.
